André (1961) is born and raised in Amsterdam. He works as an independent contractor and project manager for the City of Amsterdam. From 2012 to mid-2014, he lives with his wife and daughter in a rental apartment on the Piri Reïs Square. He had hoped that a playground or a park would be built at the square, but now the mosque is there, little space remains. At the end of May 2014, they move to Amsterdam North, to a house with a garden and a playground. “It is out of town, cheaper, greener, more spatious, and there is no mosque at my doorstep.”
