The book De Westermoskee en de geschiedenis van de Nederlandse godsdienstvrijheid by journalist and writer Kemal Rijken appeared in the Netherlands in November 2014. Kemal Rijken also worked on this online documentary, writing most of the texts.

In his book Rijken focuses on the history of the mosque project. He has done extensive research and interviewed key stakeholders. Simultaneously, Rijken puts the development of construction in the context of the Dutch history of freedom of religion, in which he finds similarities and differences between the Turks and other minorities such as Jews and Catholics.
