BORT

Once the scope and ambitions of the future Westermoskee have become clear, residents mobilise and establish their action group, BORT. Counting on the participation of about seventy local inhabitants, BORT is contesting the size and height of the future mosque. Rather than opposing the construction of the mosque in its entirety, BORT tries to prevent it from becoming too large and present. Many conversations and discussions with the project partners of the Westermoskee follow, but at the end of 2005, most objections are met, with one exception: the height of the minaret. BORT wants it to be lower, while the people behind the project want it to remain as planned. When BORT ultimately loses this struggle, they stay on as a monitoring instrument, until they disband in 2012
