Demolition at the Witte de With Street

De Baarsjes is a neighbourhood built in the architectural style of the Amsterdam School during the 1920s. Many buildings have a special monument status. The designs of the Westermoskee and Piri Reïscomplex are based on this style. These also include a covered street passage, connecting the Piri Reïs Square with the Witte de With Street behind it. This passage would have shops and cafés run by the mosque association, making it possible for them to secure funding. To allow its construction, two buildings in the Witte de With Street had to be purchased and demolished. Now, many years later, the Hotel-Not-Hotel is located in this passage.
