Milli Görüş originated in the late sixties when their great leader Necmettin Erbakan wrote a pamphlet with the same name. The movement, now to a great extent active outside Turkey, represents the idea of a Turkish state based on Islam and conservative values. In the Netherlands, Milli Görüş arose during the eighties and enjoyed its heyday in the nineties. The current generation of leaders in Turkey, like President Erdoğan and Prime Minister Davutoğlu, first acquired fame within this movement.
